🌿 Doula Services
Pre-Birth & Post-Birth Support
Pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period are deeply personal experiences. At Continuum Nursing & Care, our doula services are rooted in client-directed support, inclusivity, advocacy, and respect for autonomy.
As a trained doula, I provide non-medical emotional, physical, and evidence-based informational support to individuals and families during pregnancy and after birth. My role is to support you, your values, your choices, and your voice! While working respectfully alongside your chosen healthcare providers.
What Doula Support Can Look Like
Doula support is flexible and tailored to each client’s needs. Services may include:
• Emotional support throughout pregnancy and the postpartum period
• Evidence-based information to support informed decision-making and self-advocacy
• Assistance preparing for birth preferences and postpartum planning
• Modelling and encouraging effective communication with healthcare providers
• Advocacy at the client’s request
• Non-pharmacologic comfort and pain-management strategies
• Support with skin-to-skin and initial Breastfeeding/Chestfeeding encouragement
• Postpartum emotional support, adjustment guidance, and reassurance
• Continuity of care, including backup support so no client is left unsupported
Scope & Practice Clarity
Doula services provided through Continuum Nursing & Care are non-medical in nature and align with the values and practice guidelines recognized by the Association of Ontario Doulas (AOD).
Doula support does not include:
• Medical diagnosis, treatment, or prescribing
• Performing restricted medical procedures
• Clinical assessments, vaginal exams, or wound care
• Acting in place of a licensed medical provider
• Attending intentionally unassisted births
When additional medical or clinical support is required, appropriate referrals are encouraged.
Where I also provide nursing services, roles are clearly defined and separated to avoid confusion and to maintain professional and ethical boundaries.
Pre-Birth Doula Support May Include
• Prenatal education and preparation sessions
• Birth planning and preference discussions
• Emotional support and coping strategies
• Advocacy preparation and partner support
Post-Birth Doula Support May Include
• Emotional and practical postpartum support
• Adjustment to parenthood and family transitions
• Infant care guidance (non-medical)
• Support for rest, recovery, and confidence building
